President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy is initiating the creation of a state commission that will check the implementation of work on overcoming the consequences of summer floods in the Ivano-Frankivsk region and the expenditure of funds allocated for these measures.
"Previously there was a commission organized by Chernyshov (Minister for Communities and Territories Development Oleksiy Chernyshov - ed.). We will now form another commission that will check all needs, all mistakes. The state allocates money and we need to check where this money goes," the President said during a conversation with media representatives within a working trip to the Ivano-Frankivsk region.
According to the President, a set of measures to prevent the negative consequences of floods should be implemented in the region.
"There may be floods in the future, we need to be fully prepared for this risk as soon as possible," the President stressed.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that he got himself acquainted with the course of reconstruction of roads in the village of Lanchyn, which was damaged by the disaster. According to him, in the field of road construction the restoration process is progressing well. But many questions remain as regards the aftermath of the floods.
"Unfortunately, not much has been done. I saw it and talked to people. I believe that equipment, people, workers cannot come, work for a couple of weeks and leave. This cannot be so,” the President said, adding that the work should be performed regularly.
The Head of State stressed the need for fundamental reform on the ground to improve the quality of life in rural areas. According to him, there are united territorial communities with worn down roads, obsolete hospitals, etc.
