More than 80 outbreaks of various infections have been reported in children's camps over the previous summer. Therefore, the work of such institutions in the context of the coronavirus epidemic poses increased risks. This was discussed at a traditional meeting chaired by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on preventing the spread of COVID-19.
Minister of Health Maksym Stepanov noted that every year 1-1.2 million children have a rest in summer camps.
"That’s a lot of children, and the rules of their recreation against the background of coronavirus must be seriously thought over. At the same time, most of our camps are pretty outdated. Now we have a good opportunity to conduct their audit, repair where necessary, increase criteria of their quality, comfort, nutrition of children," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
Maksym Stepanov added that the Cabinet of Ministers has already allowed the work of recreation centers and will consider the President's proposal to improve the quality of summer camps.
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said the government was paying close attention to WHO's information about the deteriorating global coronavirus situation and to the statement that the biggest threat now is complacency.
