In Brussels, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with President of the European Council Charles Michel.
The key topic of the discussions was the presentation of the Victory Plan. The Head of State noted that he is looking forward to the EU’s active role in its implementation.
“It is very important for me to share our Victory Plan with all the leaders who have been helping us from the very beginning of the full-scale war. Our Plan is about strengthening Ukraine to make it ready for diplomacy,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
Other issues discussed during the meeting included progress in implementing the Peace Formula, continued defense assistance from the European Union, and ensuring the resilience of Ukraine's economy and financial system.
In particular, Ukraine expects that by the end of this month, a decision will be implemented under the G7 initiative on EUR 35 billion of proceeds from frozen Russian assets.
“Now we need to find the right mechanism for receiving these funds as soon as possible,” the President noted.
The Head of State also stressed that Ukraine is ready to advance as quickly as possible in the EU accession negotiations and to expedite the harmonization of its legislation with EU norms.
Strengthening sanctions against Russia and its allies was also a topic of the talks. Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted the need to continue fighting the circumvention of sanctions through third countries and taking strong steps against key sectors of the Russian Federation's economy and its shadow fleet.
Charles Michel emphasized that the EU would stand by Ukraine as long as necessary.
“We know you need more support – military and financial. As soon as possible. That is why we will talk about the ways we can speed things up and put more effort into immediate support for Ukrainians,” the President of the European Council said.
