The issue of elections in the occupied territories of Ukraine should be discussed only after fulfilling a number of conditions, including the withdrawal of Russian troops, as stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy at a press conference after a meeting with President of Estonia Kersti Kaljulaid.
“This is the issue of the liberation of people, the issue of troops separation - now we are talking about separation in Zolote and Petrivske. If we are speaking of the entire territory, it is 400 kilometers. It is only then that we can talk about the format of elections in the occupied territories,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
The Head of State emphasized that elections in the occupied territories should only take place under the Ukrainian law.
He recalled that holding such elections was part of the Minsk agreements.
“This is part of the Minsk agreements. Therefore, it is too early to talk about it. Now only a theoretical dialogue is possible,” the President of Ukraine stated.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy also informed that the date of the meeting in the Normandy format was currently being agreed, and that meeting would be related to that issue as well.
