President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Italy.
The Head of State expressed gratitude for Canada's defense support and preparation of future assistance packages. He especially noted the transfer of armored evacuation vehicles and other armored vehicles, as well as Canada's proactive stance on providing Ukraine with a $50 billion loan secured by Russian assets.
"You were the first country to start advocating for this issue. Thank you for your strong voice. Today, we are very close to this decision on 50 billion. It will help Ukraine not only on the battlefield, but also in recovery. And on behalf of our entire nation, thank you for the defense support and for strengthening our guys, our brave heroes on the battlefield," the President said.
During the meeting, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Justin Trudeau also discussed the security situation, defense cooperation and preparations for the NATO Summit in Washington.
Particular attention was paid to the preparation of the Global Peace Summit and its expected results. The Head of State thanked Justin Trudeau for supporting the Ukrainian Peace Formula and efforts to engage other countries, primarily the Global South, in the Summit.
In addition, the leaders discussed the work of the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children, co-chaired by Ukraine and Canada.
