First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska met with President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen to discuss the psychological rehabilitation of Ukrainian children. The head of the European Commission arrived in Kyiv on May 9, when, according to a presidential decree, Ukraine celebrates Europe Day for the first time.

"I would like to emphasize the courage to come to Kyiv on this very day, when the terrorist state has once again attacked our country with missiles. In recent days, we have been subjected to particularly brutal attacks - you know about the deaths of dozens of people in Uman and Kherson; missile attacks on Kyiv," Olena Zelenska said.

The First Lady, along with Health Minister Viktor Liashko, who also attended the meeting, discussed with Ursula von der Leyen the psychological rehabilitation of Ukrainian children affected by the war, including 364 young citizens whom Ukraine managed to return from Russian captivity. It was emphasized that children are now going through a difficult period: studying in bomb shelters, moving to other countries, lack of communication with family and friends, etc.

The President of the European Commission offered the EU's expert assistance in creating a support program for young Ukrainians.

"Our experts will develop a unique program to help Ukrainian children, just as they do for the psychological camp where children who lost loved ones in the war are rehabilitated. In response to the terrible experience of Ukrainians, we are developing a powerful psychological aid so that no one is left alone with what they have gone through," Olena Zelenska emphasized.
