Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Oleksiy Kuleba met with the representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Ukraine Karolina Lindholm Billing.

During the meeting, Oleksiy Kuleba emphasized the importance of the joint work and expressed hope that the fruitful and effective cooperation would continue.

"I am grateful to UNHCR for the many years of work in Ukraine, providing vital assistance to the affected population, as well as for its constant and consistent advocacy of our country in the international arena and informing partners about the consequences of Russia's armed aggression," the Deputy Head of the Presidential Office emphasized.

For her part, Karolina Lindholm Billing assured that the UN High Commissioner for Refugees will continue its work in Ukraine and increase its support. Currently, the organization is working in 17 regions of Ukraine and, together with the state authorities, is developing an action plan for the next years on humanitarian response and early recovery.

"I am very grateful for the close cooperation and partnership with the Government of Ukraine and regional and local authorities, which has enabled UNHCR to contribute to the joint response to Russia's full-scale invasion. Thanks to this excellent cooperation and our work directly with people, communities and local partners, we were able to support 4.3 million Ukrainians in 2022 and 2.2 million in 2023, including 20,000 families with housing repairs. I look forward to further expanding our cooperation across the country towards our common goal of helping as many people as possible to rebuild their homes and lives in Ukraine," said Karolina Lindholm Billing.

They also discussed the problem of the lack of title documents for housing for residents of the de-occupied territories whose homes were destroyed by the Russian invaders, which makes it impossible to receive compensation for reconstruction.

Oleksiy Kuleba also invited Karolina Lindholm Billing to attend expanded meetings of the Presidium of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, which will soon take place in several regions.
