It is with great sadness that we learned that a citizen of the United States of America, an employee of the American embassy in Kyiv, had died in the hospital. A woman with a head injury was found on September 30 by passers-by on the street near the railway in the Shevchenko district of the capital. She had four children and a husband. We express our sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased.
Law enforcement agencies of Ukraine conduct urgent investigative actions to find out all the circumstances of this terrible event. A version of both premeditated murder and an accident is currently being considered. We emphasize the need for prompt and comprehensive investigation. If this tragedy took place due to malicious intent, the perpetrators must be legally punished.
The Ukrainian authorities and the President's Office, in particular, will do their utmost to help establish all the circumstances of this terrible accident.
