Office of the President of Ukraine initiates the creation of Council on Freedom of Speech under the President of Ukraine. This was informed by Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Kyrylo Tymoshenko, on July 17, during the expert meeting "Freedom of speech and information security of Ukraine: joint challenges - joint decisions."

"A dialogue with media community is very important for us, so we are launching the work of the Council. It will meet regularly," Kyrylo Tymoshenko said.

The Council will include one representative from each editorial office of the national mass media. The editorial offices can send the name and surname of their representatives, indicating a place of work and positions to svoboda_slova@apu.gov.ua

It is expected that the Council will help to fix and eliminate threats to freedom of speech and censorship. Among the priorities is  a  protection of journalists' rights to the profession. For this purpose, there will be representatives of law enforcement agencies and media consultants in the  Council.

It is proposed to create similar Councils under each RSA Heads which will include representatives of regional mass media.
