The election of the new composition of the Constitutional Court should be transparent and open - President

The election of the new composition of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine must take place on a competitive basis, transparently and openly. This was emphasized by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on ICTV’s Freedom of Speech.

"I believe that the new composition of the Constitutional Court should be elected only in a transparent and open way. Everyone will look through a microscope who gets into the new composition of the Constitutional Court," the Head of State said.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that judges should not be appointed according to quotas, in particular from the President or the Parliament.

"I suggested that there be an independent selection of judges. To have guarantees from observers or members of the commission that will meet and select these judges. I do not want to influence the Constitutional Court. Although, if I had influenced, they would not have had such a decision. But still I do not want to. I do not want to have any proposals for this or that candidate. I came from another life where there is no relationship with judges. Therefore, I can only agree on them if the proposals were worked out by our professionals together with partners. I can ask law enforcement bodies to check their integrity and agree on them. That’s it,” the President emphasized.

The Head of State clarified that after the reset of the Constitutional Court, the work of new judges must comply with the principles of integrity.

"So that they protect Ukraine, protect each of us, all ordinary citizens and the Constitution of Ukraine. So that there are no cases when they buy land in Crimea and even don’t declare it after that," he stressed.

At the same time, Volodymyr Zelenskyy is convinced that the best way out of the constitutional crisis is the voluntary resignation of the entire current composition of the CCU.
