President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that resolving the issue of war and deoccupation of Ukrainian territories remains a priority for him.
"Yesterday there was a meeting - again in video format - of the Trilateral Contact Group. They are meeting regularly despite COVID-19. They had a meeting yesterday and finally agreed on the opening of the checkpoint. This is very important," said the President of Ukraine during a press conference.
The President noted that the issue of opening the checkpoint on the line of delimitation is of great importance from a humanitarian point of view.
The President reminded that last year they managed to agree on a ceasefire due to which the situation in Donbas has been stable for six or seven months - the number of shelling occasions, injured or killed Ukrainian defenders decreased tenfold.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy also noted that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was difficult to agree on a meeting of the leaders of the Normandy format countries.
However, according to the Head of State, cooperation in the Normandy format is continued. In particular, Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a meeting with President of France Emmanuel Macron and in the format of a video conference - with Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel.
"I feel their support, but I think they should support us more. They know my opinion. I think they have been weakening their positions regarding Russia a bit recently,” the President of Ukraine said.
According to the President, this is particularly caused by the economic situation and pressure within their countries, in particular from business, due to the imposition of sanctions.
"But so far I know that they support Ukraine. There are agreed clusters to end the war. These clusters are agreed between Germany and France, but there is no agreement with the Russian side," the President said.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy also reminded that he invited the President of the Russian Federation to meet in Donbas, and Vladimir Putin invited him to Moscow in response.
"Traditionally the parties in such situations meet either in the area of conflict or on neutral territory. A conversation has started between the Office of the President of Ukraine and the Russian Federation," the Head of State said.
