One of the mandatory tasks of Ukrainian diplomats around the world is to protect Ukrainians. The embassies of Ukraine should be assistants to our people and, if necessary, rescuers. This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during an emergency meeting with the heads of foreign diplomatic missions of Ukraine held in Zakarpattia region.
The President emphasized that everything the state does is aimed at protecting our people both inside Ukraine and abroad, in different countries of the world. According to him, our state is grateful to all countries that sheltered Ukrainians after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion.
“But Ukraine's goal is to bring people back home, to preserve their ties with Ukraine, their ties with Ukrainian culture, their ties with our society. Ukrainian books, Ukrainian information space, Ukrainian education should be accessible to our people wherever they are temporarily located. And this, I believe, is your personal responsibility as well,” the Head of State addressed the diplomats.
According to him, solutions are needed that would encourage Ukrainians to return home rather than fully integrate in other countries.
“We need a new policy on diasporas and work with representatives of all generations of Ukrainian emigration. Embassies can become both the authors and the leaders of this new policy,” the President emphasized.
In Zakarpattia, the President held an emergency meeting with the heads of Ukraine's diplomatic missions to foreign countries, during which he named five main foreign policy priorities for the next political season.
