President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited the National Technical University of Ukraine "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute", which celebrates the 125th anniversary of its foundation, and spoke with professors, lecturers and students.
Answering the students' questions, he noted that digital technologies play an important role in the full-scale war, and it is very important that our state began to develop cooperation with the IT sector even before the full-scale Russian invasion. This, he said, helped protect our institutions from enemy cyberattacks and intensify work on advanced weapons, missiles, drones, etc.
Therefore, according to the President, it is important to create conditions for IT professionals to be able to build private IT businesses, actively cooperate with the state and jointly develop cybersecurity, digital technologies, etc. In particular, Ukraine has introduced a special legal and tax regime called Diia.City for IT professionals.
"We have the best taxes for tech companies today. This is a fact. They are among the best in the world and perhaps the best in Europe," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
The Head of State noted that creativity, intelligence and memory need to be constantly trained, and it is important not to lose the educational experience gained. Therefore, it is necessary to maintain the competitiveness of our universities in the world. According to him, after the victory, the restoration of Ukrainian universities will begin, and modern infrastructure will appear.
"The most important thing is to give an opportunity to develop science at universities. So that people do not want to change their profession, so that scientists are involved. And if they want to develop something, they should have this opportunity here. There should be a state order, and business should be interested in such specialists," the President is convinced.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy also called for the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine to develop a mechanism that would allow Ukrainian students to travel abroad to participate in international competitions, similar to the one in place for athletes and cultural figures, but would not be available for citizens who want to leave Ukraine to avoid mobilization.
At the end of the conversation, Rector of the National Technical University of Ukraine "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute" Mykhailo Zgurovsky presented the Head of State with two etchings by Honored Artist of Ukraine Volodymyr Ivanov-Akhmetov depicting former students of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute Serhiy Korolyov and Igor Sikorsky, as well as a book about the university.
