Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited the Memorial to ATO Heroes in the Sumy region and talked to the veterans and their families

During a working trip to the Sumy region, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with ATO/JFO veterans and their families.

The families of the war participants appealed to the President to grant status to the families of the fallen defenders of Ukraine.

Representative of the Advisory Council for War Veterans and Families of Perished Defenders of Ukraine under the President Yevhen Tieriekhov said that a bill was being drafted and would be submitted to parliament.

The parties also noted that orphans whose parents died in the war often do not have access to housing.

"We have to help the children of the dead so that this child is protected, so that this child has a home," one of the relatives of the military said.

The President noted that this issue can be resolved at the level of regional authorities, and the state will help.

In addition, the families of the combatants complained to Volodymyr Zelenskyy about unfair and fake accusations against the Ukrainian military on the frontline, which are sometimes reported in the media. In particular, the mother of a soldier who defended the Donetsk airport and died at the age of 20 stressed the importance of preserving the memory of her only son and his actions.

"Your son is a hero, we know that. All Ukrainians are sure of this. He defended our country, defended our borders. So we honor the memory and understand that they are great people. Don't listen to this dirt. We thank you for your son. Take care of yourself to preserve the memory. Because as long as we live, we remember," the Head of State urged in response.

Veterans also told the President about the problem with the employment of the military after returning from the frontline. This causes a severe psychological condition of veterans.

"I believe that businessmen who have kept their business should be grateful to the guys who fought on the frontline. Therefore, a simple option is to stimulate them to create jobs and hire veterans," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

The President also visited the Memorial to the Heroes of the ATO located in the central cemetery of the regional center. Currently, 46 ATO warriors and Hero of the Heavenly Hundred Oleksiy Bratushka are buried there.

The President paid tribute to the victims and laid flowers at the memorial stele.
