A Department of Ukrainian Studies Will Be Established at the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia

During her visit to Slovenia, First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska met with the faculty and administration of the University of Ljubljana.

The President's wife noted that their meeting was taking place on the thousandth day since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion and spoke about the 114 higher education institutions damaged and dozens of students killed.

The First Lady thanked the institution for its support of Ukrainian students studying there, as well as for the projects of the Faculty of Architecture for the reconstruction of Vasyl Karazin Kharkiv National University.

During the meeting, Rector Gregor Majdič officially announced the establishment of a Ukrainian Studies Department at the university.

“This decision was a long-awaited one for Ukraine, as the Slovenian Studies Departments in Kyiv and Lviv have been operating for over 15 years. It is also a strong addition to the global coalition of Ukrainian Studies. Knowledge always makes you stronger. I hope that another center of Ukrainian Studies will make Ukraine, Slovenia, and everyone who wants to know the truth stronger,” the President's wife noted.

In addition, Olena Zelenska, together with the First Gentleman of Slovenia Aleš Musar, participated in the opening of a Ukrainian bookshelf in the National Library of the University. In total, there are already 200 such shelves in 50 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, and America.
