We are ready for the second wave of the epidemic, but we hope that it will pass us by - President

Ukraine has carried out 877,000 tests for coronavirus infection since the beginning of the COVID-19 epidemic. This was noted by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a traditional conference call chaired by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Minister of Health Maksym Stepanov said that the number of daily tests is constantly increasing, reminding that in the first days only 200 tests were performed and the system of laboratories needed restoration. He also added that the same level of indicators for the detection of suspicions and infections has been maintained for three weeks, last week hospitalization generally declined.

"Currently we have to be constantly alert, but we should not exaggerate the reaction. Today, there are no critical outbreaks or any "red spots" associated with the spread of coronavirus infection in the country. The quantitative threshold of those who recovered exceeded 50 percent. We are ready for the second wave, but we hope that it will pass us by," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

Denys Shmyhal reminded that the mortality rate due to coronavirus infection is quite moderate in Ukraine - 2.5%.

Head of the Security Service Ivan Bakanov stated that the Security Service continues to prevent losses when purchasing equipment and materials to combat COVID-19. He said that the latest operations prevented losses in the amount of 52 million hryvnias.
