Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Ihor Zhovkva held an online conversation with the Diplomatic Advisor to the President of the Portuguese Republic Maria Amélia Paiva.
The parties discussed the security situation in Ukraine and the recent massive missile attacks on our country's territory by Russia, as well as the devastating consequences of these attacks for infrastructure and civilians.
In this regard, Ihor Zhovkva thanked the Portuguese side for providing defense, financial and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine and temporary shelter for nearly 60,000 Ukrainian citizens.
The interlocutors also discussed the implementation of the Black Sea Grain Initiative and the Grain from Ukraine program.
"Russia's massive missile attacks on Ukraine's port infrastructure directly imperil global food security. The consequences of Russia's terrorist actions in countries that are particularly dependent on Ukrainian agricultural products are already tangible. Russia must receive a consolidated tough response from the international community," the Deputy Head of the Presidential Office emphasized.
Ihor Zhovkva thanked Portugal for supporting Ukraine's movement towards EU and NATO membership, as well as for the accession of the Portuguese Republic to the Joint Declaration on security guarantees.
"Ukraine's membership in the EU and NATO is the best guarantee of security for the European continent and the eastern flank of the North Atlantic Alliance. We count on Portugal's support for decisions on Ukraine's progress towards membership in both organizations," he said.
The parties separately discussed Portugal's participation in the implementation of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Peace Formula and the modalities of the Global Peace Summit.
In addition, the schedule of high-level contacts for the near future was coordinated.
