Head of the Office of the President Andriy Yermak held a meeting with U.S. Department of State Sanctions Coordinator, Ambassador James O'Brien, who is on a visit to Ukraine.
Andriy Yermak noted the leadership role of the United States in supporting our country in the fight against Russian aggression.
"One of the key areas of such support is sanctions policy," he emphasized.
During the meeting, the Head of the Office of the President and the U.S. Department of State Sanctions Coordinator exchanged views on the effectiveness of the restrictive measures taken against Russia at this stage, as well as the prospects for their expansion.
Andriy Yermak separately briefed James O'Brien on the progress and results of the International Working Group on Sanctions against Russia chaired by the Head of the Office of the President and Director of the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies (FSI), Ambassador Michael McFaul. He noted that the group had recently presented its latest document "Measures to Increase the Effectiveness of Sanctions".
Separately, the interlocutors emphasized the importance of increasing sanctions pressure on Russia, which is a terrorist country. In this regard, Andriy Yermak paid special attention to the issue of determining the mechanisms for recognizing Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism.
The parties agreed to strengthen coordination to increase sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation.
The Head of the President's Office also thanked the American side for participating in the inaugural International Summit on Food Security in the framework of the Grain from Ukraine humanitarian program, as well as for a significant financial contribution to the Ukrainian "grain initiative".
