On instructions of the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Deputy Head of the Office of the President Ihor Zhovkva met with Minister for the European Union of Poland Adam Szłapka during his working visit to Poland.
Ihor Zhovkva thanked Poland for supporting yesterday's decision at a special meeting of the European Council to create a new €50 billion financial instrument for Ukraine, the Ukraine Facility, for 2024-2027.
"We appreciate the role of Poland in the EU's decision on long-term support for Ukraine. This is clear proof of the EU's unity and determination to help our country in this difficult time," the Deputy Head of the Presidential Office emphasized.
Referring to yesterday's conclusions of the European Council, Ihor Zhovkva also noted the importance of adopting a decision in March 2024 to provide military assistance to Ukraine and expedite the supply of the necessary amount of ammunition.
The interlocutors exchanged views on the priorities of bilateral cooperation on the path of Ukraine's integration into the EU, especially in the context of the launch of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union. Special attention was paid to the discussion of the initiative of the Polish side to establish a mechanism of bilateral dialogue on Ukraine's European integration. The participants discussed the issues of using the relevant experience of Poland, the importance of personnel training and technical assistance in the area of European integration. This mechanism will also help identify problematic issues on the bilateral agenda that may arise in the course of Ukraine's pre-accession negotiations with the EU.
During a meeting with Head of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland Paweł Graś, Ihor Zhovkva thanked Poland for joining the G7 Joint Declaration of Support for Ukraine. The parties discussed the modalities of starting negotiations on a bilateral agreement on security commitments for our country.
The parties exchanged views on the outcome of the recent visit of Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk to Ukraine and the importance of implementing the agreements reached.
"It is symbolic that your first official meeting in this new position is with a representative of Ukraine. This is yet another proof of the importance of our strategic partnership and further mutual support in all areas," the Deputy Head of the Presidential Office emphasized.
The interlocutors also discussed the schedule of contacts at the highest level and the possible timing of the start of bilateral security talks.
