Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Ihor Zhovkva met with EU Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Olivér Várhelyi on the sidelines of the meeting of EU-Ukraine Foreign Ministers in Kyiv.
The parties discussed in detail the progress made by Ukraine in implementing the European Commission's recommendations on Ukraine's status as a candidate for membership in the European Union. The parties noted the recent adoption of a number of important legislative and regulatory acts at the level of the Verkhovna Rada and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
Ihor Zhovkva expressed hope that the significant progress made by Ukraine since becoming a candidate for EU membership, particularly in recent months, would be reflected in a positive assessment by the European Commission as part of the enlargement package.
"We count on EU member states to endorse the decision to start negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU during the European Council meeting in December this year," the Deputy Head of the Presidential Office noted.
They also discussed further contacts at the highest level between Ukraine and the European Commission in the near future.
