Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Ihor Zhovkva held online consultations with Foreign Affairs Adviser to the President of Latvia Solveiga Silkalna.
The interlocutors discussed the measures taken in Ukraine and Latvia in the context of counteracting the spread of COVID-19 and the implementation of vaccination of citizens with certified vaccines.
Ihor Zhovkva informed the interlocutor in detail about the escalation of the security situation in the east of our state. Emphasis was placed on a significant increase in the number of ceasefire violations, an increase in the number of dead and wounded Ukrainian servicemen, as well as an increase in the Russian military contingent along the Ukrainian-Russian border.
Solveiga Silkalna expressed concern over the aggravation of the security situation in Donbas and stressed the invariability of Riga's position in support of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The interlocutors discussed cooperation between the two countries in the context of implementing Ukraine's strategic course towards European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
In this regard, there was an exchange of views on the importance of fixing the European prospect of Ukraine and Latvia’s support for the relevant efforts of our state.
The algorithm of further bilateral cooperation in the context of the prospect of Ukraine's NATO Membership Action Plan was also discussed. Ihor Zhovkva thanked the Latvian side for supporting this ambitious goal for our country, as well as for its readiness to provide the necessary assistance.
Ihor Zhovkva stressed that in August 2021, as part of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Ukraine's independence, the inaugural summit of the Crimean Platform will take place. He informed Solveiga Silkalna about the main elements of the Crimean Platform initiative and praised the willingness of President of Latvia Egils Levits to take part in this important event.
At the end of the talks, the diplomatic advisers coordinated positions on further measures of the high-level bilateral dialogue.
