Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Ihor Zhovkva held a working meeting with Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia Jonatan Vseviov.
The key topic of the meeting was the security situation in Donbas, including the recent increase in ceasefire violations, the growing number of dead and wounded Ukrainian servicemen, and Russia's build-up of the military contingent along the Ukrainian-Russian border.
Ihor Zhovkva expressed gratitude for Tallinn's strong support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, especially in the context of Estonia's non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council in 2020-2021. He also noted the joint visit of the foreign ministers of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania to Kyiv in April this year as an important gesture of solidarity with Ukraine.
Jonatan Vseviov stressed the continued firm support of Estonia for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Ukrainian state. He stressed that the Republic of Estonia would never recognize the illegal occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
The Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia also assured that the Estonian side is ready to actively participate in the Crimean Platform initiative, the inaugural summit of which will take place in Ukraine on August 23, 2021.
The parties paid special attention to the cooperation of the two states in the implementation of Ukraine's strategic course towards integration into the European Union. In this regard, there was an exchange of views on the expediency of fixing Ukraine’s European prospect and the importance of Estonia’s support for this idea.
Ihor Zhovkva and Jonatan Vseviov discussed in detail the algorithm of further bilateral cooperation in the context of the implementation of our country's Euro-Atlantic integration strategy, in particular regarding the prospect of Ukraine receiving a NATO Membership Action Plan.
At the end of the meeting, the interlocutors coordinated high-level bilateral dialogue activities for the near future.
