Ukraine is grateful to Canada for its support. It was stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the Ukraine Reform Conference.
"Despite the fact that our countries are separated by more than 7 thousand kilometers, we always feel that you are close," the Head of State said during a speech at the “Public-oriented democracy” panel.
According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Canada is an example of the state Ukraine would like to become: a state of successful, prosperous people living in harmony with the outside world, the environment and themselves.
"We do not have excessive global ambitions, but we are ready to surprise the world in a positive way," he said.
As an example of success, the President mentioned the only professional basketball team in Canada - Toronto Raptors, who became the NBA champion in 2019.
"This example, in my opinion, clearly illustrates the tasks of Ukraine and Ukrainians: to win when nobody expects that. To unite and do the impossible," Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted.
The President recalled that in the inaugural speech he had appealed to Ukrainians all over the world and urged them to return home in order to build a new and powerful state.
"A citizen-oriented state. This is why I engaged in politics," the Head of State emphasized.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy is convinced that the highest value should be a person.
The President noted: "A man is above all. Not “a man for the state". But "the state for a man”. In addition, he says that Ukrainians want a different format of relations between the authorities and a citizen, where the citizen is a client and the government is a service.
The Head of State called one of the key tasks the victory over corruption and the creation of independent courts.
“The digitalization of processes, implementation of "A state in a smartphone" - artificial intelligence should replace the mentality of officials. Overcoming monopolies, fighting raids and smuggling. Protection of property rights, improvement of the country's credit rating, large-scale investment attraction. All this should be done in order to improve the living standards of Ukrainian citizens," Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted.
