The Mayor of Kyiv is also the Head of the Kyiv City State Administration who is appointed by the President, and therefore he must not allow budget embezzlement. This was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a press conference.
"Vitali Klitschko did nothing to me. I have nothing to do with the Mayor, except for one thing - the Head of the Kyiv City State Administration is the vertical of the President. And whether he wants that or not, that is the fact," the Head of State said.
He noted that he agreed not to dismiss Vitali Klitschko from the post of the Head of the Kyiv City State Administration if corruption in the city authorities is stopped.
"I told him: no questions, please work, show the result. I have just one request - there is probable evidence from the law enforcement bodies. It seems to me that these times are over - one should not steal money from the budget of Ukraine," the President said.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that he respects Vitali Klitschko as the champion and Mayor of Kyiv who was elected by Kyiv residents. And searches conducted by law enforcement officers in the houses of some representatives of the Mayor's entourage are connected with the embezzlement of budget.
"I think that’s fair. Isn't that what you and I dreamed of - justice?" added the President.
