During the Third European Political Community Summit, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola.
"Thank you for the resolutions in support of us. You have always supported Ukraine and demonstrated this during your visits to our country," the head of state said.
He expressed gratitude for the support from the European Parliament regarding the proposals of the European Commission for the revision of the EU's long-term budget, which includes a facility of EUR 50 billion to help Ukraine.
The interlocutors assessed the progress of our country in implementing the recommendations of the European Commission to begin negotiations on EU accession. The President said that Ukraine has almost completed this work and expressed confidence that our country will be able to start accession negotiations with the EU this year.
Volodymyr Zelensky and Roberta Metsola discussed the preparation of another sanctions package against Russia and measures to counter the propaganda of the aggressor country.
The sides also discussed Ukraine's defense needs and the possible role of the European Parliament in increasing support from countries whose capabilities allow for a significant increase in assistance to Ukraine.
