On the 37th anniversary of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant tragedy, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy honored the memory of the liquidators who died as a result of the accident.
With the participation of the Head of State and in the presence of the honor guard, flower arrangements were laid at the memorial sign "To the Warriors of Chornobyl" and the memorial mound "To the Heroes of Chornobyl".
"37 years ago, the accident at the Chornobyl nuclear power plant left a huge scar on the whole world. The radiation leak turned the once cozy and developed territory into an exclusion zone. Today, the 30-kilometer zone around Chornobyl remains a dangerous place with a high concentration of radiation," Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted.
As the President emphasized, Ukraine and the world have paid a high price for the liquidation of the consequences of the disaster, which are still tangible today.
The President of Ukraine, Head of the Office of the President Andriy Yermak and the attendees paid tribute to the victims with a moment of silence.
