The European Union should demonstrate real support for the European integration aspirations of Ukraine, which continues to fight for its independence. This was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the discussion "The happiness of nations is based on fair laws, the effectiveness of which depends on their implementation" which took place in Warsaw.

The discussion was also attended by President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda, President of Estonia Kersti Kaljulaid, President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda and President of Latvia Egils Levits.

"We should be seen in the EU as an equal and integral partner," the Ukrainian President said.

Polish President Andrzej Duda noted that the European Union could become stronger after the accession of new members, as EU enlargement has always made it more dynamic.

"Ukraine is a powerful state that will only strengthen the European Union," Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed.

Andrzej Duda noted that the EU should discuss mechanisms for accession of those states that have announced their European integration aspirations.

The President of Ukraine thanked the European partners for their support of the independence and territorial integrity of our state.

"This is very important today, when part of Ukrainian territory - our Crimean peninsula is annexed, and when we have a war in the east. And this is also a war in Europe, so it is very important for us to stand together," he said.

The President of Poland emphasized that it was impossible to accept the fact of occupation of Ukrainian territories. He noted that Poland welcomed the position of Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda, who said in a speech to the Polish Sejm that he would never accept the occupation of Ukraine. The President of Lithuania noted that he believed in the future of Ukraine as an EU member.

The leaders focused on improving democracy mechanisms and justice systems, especially in light of the challenges posed by the pandemic. The President of Ukraine spoke about the measures taken by the Ukrainian authorities to help the population live through the quarantine periods, as well as about the initiatives aimed at restoring public confidence in laws. In particular, a package of legislative acts on democracy has already been prepared.

"We need to involve Ukrainian society. People must be able to influence the life of the country, its choice, the economy through different levels of referendums not once every five years, when the President or the Parliament is elected, but every month, every week," Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized.
