President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his wife Olena visited the tenth International Book Arsenal Festival, which will last in Kyiv until June 27.
Olesia Ostrovska-Liuta, Director General of the Mystetskyi Arsenal, told the President that the holding of the tenth Book Arsenal was planned last year, but was postponed to 2021 due to the introduction of restrictive measures against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic. This year's focus of the festival is "Optimists skeptics", because this is what it takes to survive and live in a world that has gone through quarantine and isolation.
Olesia Ostrovska-Liuta acquainted the presidential couple with the expositions of Ukrainian publishing houses, stands of foreign countries, book novelties and showed interesting locations of the festival, in particular "Cafe Europe" and "Art Stage", where thematic lectures and presentations of publications take place.
The President and the First Lady were interested in art publications, fiction and nonfiction.
"A wonderful festival. A lot of educational literature, a lot of children's books, fiction. I was interested in publications on historical topics - I'm interested in that. I read in the morning, around 5:30, when there is time. And I can't read at night - I fall asleep quickly," the President said.
The President also took part in a joint project of "UA: Radio Culture", the Center for Civil Liberties and PEN-Ukraine - a marathon of letters to prisoners of the Kremlin 2021 - #PrisonersVoice: "Postcard to a political prisoner from Arsenal". Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a postcard.
