President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his wife Olena took part in the commemoration of the victims of the Holodomor in Ukraine.
The Presidential couple, as well as Verkhovna Rada Chairman Dmytro Razumkov, Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk, representatives of the diplomatic corps, and other officials walked to the Bitter Childhood Memories sculpture on the territory of the National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide in Kyiv.
After that, the leaders of the Ukrainian Christian churches conducted a memorial service to the deceased in the Holodomor.
The President of Ukraine announced a nationwide moment of silence, after which the nationwide action "Light a Candle!" started.
Volodymyr and Olena Zelenskyy put the compositions with grain and lighted icon lamps on the Bitter Childhood Memories sculpture.
After that, icon lamps from the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Government, the Presidents of Ukraine in 1991-2019, the Ukrainian World Congress, the Civic Committee to commemorate the victims of the Holodomor-Genocide of 1932-1933, the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, the European platform of remembrance and conscience, the heads and representatives of diplomatic missions of foreign countries and international organizations accredited in Ukraine, as well as from each region, the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the cities of Kyiv and Sevastopol were installed.
At the end of the official ceremony, the Head of State struck the bell installed at the entrance to the Alley of the Black Boards of Ukraine.
