President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that this year it is planned to find a place for construction and start designing an airport that would provide civil air services for the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. He told this during an interview for Ukrainian TV channels in the framework of the All-Ukrainian Forum "Ukraine 30. Infrastructure".
"We could open the Mariupol airport, restore and upgrade it, but today military officials say it is dangerous," the President said, answering the question whether the resumption of flights to Mariupol is being considered.
The President said that he had urged the leadership of the relevant departments to resolve issues of problematic directions, including air communication with Donbas.
"We will also find a location between the Luhansk and Donetsk regions, and this year we will begin designing a new airport for these two regions," Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted.
