Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Ihor Zhovkva met with Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Estonia Kyllike Sillaste-Elling.
Ihor Zhovkva informed his Estonian counterpart about Ukraine's progress on the path to European integration. In particular, he expressed hope that the European Council will make a decision to start negotiations on Ukraine's membership in the EU this year.
Special attention was paid to the implementation of the Ukrainian Peace Formula, in the implementation of several points of which Estonia is already actively involved.
The interlocutors also discussed the issue of bringing the aggressor state to justice. In particular, they noted the active work of the Estonian side within the Core Group, which is dealing with the issue of establishing a special tribunal to investigate the crime of Russian aggression against Ukraine.
The Deputy Head of the Presidential Office thanked Estonia for its leadership in developing national legislation on the transfer of confiscated Russian assets for the reconstruction of Ukraine.
"We appreciate your leadership in the issue of using Russian assets to rebuild Ukraine. Estonia will be the first European country to introduce a legal mechanism to resolve this issue. You are setting an important example for others," emphasized Ihor Zhovkva.
The parties also discussed joint activities in the framework of the UN General Assembly High-level Week at the end of September this year.
