Ukraine's Membership in the OECD Is No Less Important Than Membership in the EU and NATO – Ihor Zhovkva

Deputy Head of the Office of the President Ihor Zhovkva held a meeting with William Tompson, Head of the Eurasia Division at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.

William Tompson highlighted Ukraine's significant progress in combating corruption. Thanks to the efforts of the interagency group tasked with developing proposals for Ukraine’s participation in the OECD Working Group on Bribery in International Business Transactions chaired by Andriy Yermak, Head of the Office of the President, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the necessary legislation. This enabled Ukraine to gain participant status in the OECD Working Group.

William Tompson also acknowledged the successful implementation of economic reforms in Ukraine despite Russian aggression, noting that these reforms are one of the prerequisites for Ukraine's membership in the OECD.

“We are grateful to the OECD for its important work, particularly for preparing the report assessing Ukraine’s economic situation and recognizing its progress. This is crucial for Ukraine, our partners, and current and future investors in the reconstruction and economic development of our country,” Ihor Zhovkva emphasized.

In addition, the OECD plays an important role in preparing for Ukraine’s recovery process and will actively assist in rebuilding efforts. Ihor Zhovkva noted that Ukraine is already developing a concept for post-war economic growth.

“Ukraine is open to launching production of innovative products with high added value. Our country aims to become a high-tech nation, attractive to foreign investors, with a reliable investment climate. Ukraine is firmly committed to implementing all necessary reforms to achieve this goal, as well as to securing membership in the OECD, which is no less important than joining the EU and NATO,” Ihor Zhovkva stated.
