President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy is convinced that a clear invitation to Ukraine for future NATO membership at the Vilnius Summit will be a significant demonstration of courage and strength of the Alliance. The Head of State said this during a meeting with media representatives following negotiations with President of the Czech Republic Petr Pavel in Prague.
"All that is needed is an invitation. We understand that there may be difficulties with this or that wording in order to get the united support of all partners from the Alliance. Someone is still looking back to Moscow, someone is afraid of Russia. However, I believe that this is such a moment - a great chance to show courage and strength of the entire Alliance," Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted.
The President emphasized that Ukraine is waiting for a concrete signal regarding the invitation to join NATO. "We need this motivation. We need honesty in our relations," he explained.
According to the Head of State, today, the Alliance also needs a victory - successful actions that will demonstrate its strength and unity.
"The Alliance has not yet found a common signal regarding Sweden, so Sweden is not yet in NATO. And there is no decision on Swedish membership yet. Ukraine also has no invitation in one form or another. Then what is the success of the Alliance? It seems to me that the world also needs to demonstrate the strength of the Alliance and unity to its nations and Russia," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
The President of Ukraine also noted that a number of important issues related to defense support packages would be discussed at the Vilnius Summit.
Answering a question about his upcoming visit to Türkiye, Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that today it is necessary to unite all the leaders of NATO member states to put political pressure on Russia.
"We have several issues. The grain initiative. A very important issue of support for Ukraine in NATO. The exchange of prisoners. There are many things that we will talk about, and I believe that we will have agreements with the President of Türkiye," the Head of State said.
