Active engagement between Ukraine and representatives of the new U.S. administration is essential for effectively preparing negotiations aimed at establishing a just and lasting peace. Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak emphasized this in an interview with Associated Press journalist Susie Blann.
Andriy Yermak stated that Ukraine is eagerly awaiting the visit of U.S. Special Envoy for Ukraine and Russia Keith Kellogg in February, as it will give an opportunity to provide comprehensive information on Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
"For President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and our team, it is extremely important that the new U.S. administration receives full and accurate information about the battlefield situation as quickly as possible – including updates on mobilization efforts, arms deliveries, and military equipment supplies," Andriy Yermak said.
According to Andriy Yermak, direct communication with U.S. partners is crucial for establishing a shared position, as it is impossible to form any peace plans without Ukraine.
He also noted that he has already spoken by phone with Michael Waltz, National Security Advisor to the U.S. President, and that further engagement with other members of Donald Trump’s administration is expected. According to Andriy Yermak, these discussions are part of the preparation for a future meeting between the presidents of Ukraine and the United States.
"This meeting, I am absolutely convinced, is of utmost importance. I believe it is necessary for it to take place as soon as possible, and we are actively working toward that goal," Andriy Yermak stressed.
The Head of the President's Office underscored that Ukraine must approach negotiations on a just and lasting peace in a strong position. It also needs security guarantees, which is now one of the topics of all conversations with partners.
"Under any circumstances, Ukraine must receive strong security guarantees. This is about preventing any future aggression from Russia. This is not a country that respects international law or human rights. No decisions will be effective unless they are backed by reliable security guarantees," he explained.
Looking ahead, Ukraine seeks to position itself as a strong international partner across multiple sectors, particularly in the economy. The country aims to attract investments from the United States and other nations. That is why President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Victory Plan includes a clause on investments in the extraction of natural resources.
