During his working trip to Chernihiv region, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a coordination meeting regarding the security and socio-economic situation in the region.
Head of Chernihiv Regional Military Administration Viacheslav Chaus reported on the social and economic situation, the restoration of de-occupied territories, and the construction of fortifications and defensive structures. According to him, Russian occupiers fired over 15,000 shells at border settlements in the region in 2023. These settlements are home to 15,000 people. This year, Chernihiv region's border has been shelled 747 times, with nearly 4,000 shells fired.
Viacheslav Chaus also said that mine action in the region is ongoing, and the region needs appropriate equipment.
Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko noted that two additional mine action teams from Ukraine's State Emergency Service started operating in Chernihiv region at the beginning of this week. Another vehicle for mechanized demining will be sent to the region. It would double the speed of demining farmland.
As the head of Chernihiv Regional Military Administration reported, nearly 70% of the housing damaged by Russian shelling has already been restored in the region. Specifically, over UAH 580 million have been disbursed to people under the eRecovery program.
Participants of the meeting, along with Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovyi, discussed the possibility of resuming in-person classes in schools in border communities of Chernihiv region. The President instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to allocate additional funds to provide shelters for fully equipped schools in the region.
The Head of State also listened to a report from military command about the operational situation, the readiness of military units to perform tasks, and resistance to enemy sabotage and reconnaissance groups.
The chiefs of the regional Security Service and National Police departments reported on the security and crime situation in the region.
