Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak met with Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization Arsenio Dominguez. Deputy Head of the Office of the President Ihor Zhovkva also participated in the meeting.
Andriy Yermak thanked the IMO for its support of Ukraine in the face of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
"The International Maritime Organization has always stood by the principles of international law. This is extremely important for us. We highly appreciate your position," he emphasized.
The Head of the President’s Office informed Arsenio Dominguez about the agreements reached between the Ukrainian and American delegations in Jeddah, particularly regarding a 30-day ceasefire. He noted that Ukraine expects IMO's assistance in monitoring the ceasefire at sea and ensuring free navigation.
Andriy Yermak also highlighted the continuous Russian attacks on Ukraine’s port infrastructure in the Odesa region. He stressed that Russia’s strikes destabilize global supply chains and threaten food security. He called on the IMO to regularly inform the world about Russia’s crimes against Ukraine’s port infrastructure.
Additionally, Andriy Yermak called for the implementation of stricter measures to counter Russia’s shadow fleet.
The parties also discussed the functioning of the Black Sea "grain corridor" amid ongoing attacks by the aggressor state.
Arsenio Dominguez reaffirmed that the IMO would continue to uphold the principles of free navigation and the safety of crews in the Black Sea.
