Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak held an online briefing with the national security advisors to the G7 leaders. Deputy Head of the Office Ihor Zhovkva also took part in the conversation. The discussion focused on current security challenges, the humanitarian situation, and steps toward achieving a just peace.
Andriy Yermak briefed partners on the results of a recent meeting with the U.S. team in Riyadh, which was a consistent follow-up to the dialogue initiated in Jeddah.
"We welcome the leadership of the U.S. Administration, and of President Trump personally, in the process of achieving a lasting peace for Ukraine as soon as possible," the Head of the Presidential Office said.
He also emphasized the constructive dialogue that took place at the technical teams' level, which covered the ceasefire concerning energy and other civilian infrastructure, maritime safety in the Black Sea, and humanitarian issues.
Andriy Yermak particularly highlighted the outcomes of the leaders' summit on support for Ukraine in Paris, which demonstrated the unity of European countries in assisting our state and underscored the importance of transatlantic cooperation with the United States. He specifically noted the adoption of new assistance packages, support for the Czech initiative to supply ammunition, and France’s decision to allocate an additional EUR 2 billion. Additionally, the discussion covered security guarantees for Ukraine and the deployment of partner forces following the conclusion of a peace agreement.
The Head of the Presidential Office reaffirmed our country's sincere aspiration for peace, emphasizing its readiness for an unconditional ceasefire.
“Ukraine has always taken a constructive stance and fully supports the U.S. Administration’s approach to an unconditional ceasefire. However, the Russian side is deliberately dragging out the negotiation process, creating new obstacles, while the shelling of Ukrainian settlements does not stop, attacks on the frontline persist, and new military groups are being formed on the territory of the aggressor country,” Andriy Yermak added.
He also pointed out that Ukraine's stance on sanctions remains uncompromising.
“The lifting of any sanctions against Russia while the war continues is unacceptable. On the contrary, there must be a readiness for a decisive response if Russia attempts to sabotage the agreements. It is crucial that we have received confirmation of this position not only during yesterday's leaders’ meeting in Paris but also during our conversation today,” the Head of the Presidential Office stressed.
The conversation was attended by: National Security and Intelligence Advisor to the Prime Minister of Canada Nathalie Drouin, Foreign Policy and Security Advisor to the Federal Chancellor of Germany Jens Plötner, National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Jonathan Powell, Deputy National Security Advisor of the United States Alex Wong, Diplomatic Advisor to the President of France Bertrand Buchwalter, Diplomatic Advisor to the President of the Council of Ministers of Italy Fabrizio Saggio, Assistant Chief Cabinet Secretary of Japan Keiichi Ichikawa, Head of the Cabinet of the President of the European Council Pedro Lourtie, and Head of the Cabinet of the President of the European Commission Björn Seibert.
The parties reaffirmed the importance of maintaining regular consultations at the G7 level to achieve a lasting and just peace for Ukraine.
