Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Smyrnov met with Director-General of the European Commission for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations Gert Jan Koopman.
The event was also attended by the Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Matti Maasikas.
The participants discussed the progress of judicial reform in our country and further steps to introduce relevant amendments to Ukrainian legislation.
Andriy Smyrnov emphasized the importance of implementing the recommendations of international partners in this regard.
"We have made progress in implementing judicial reform. We have rebooted the High Council of Justice and the High Qualification Commission of Judges. We have also developed a draft law on the Constitutional Court, where we have actually implemented the model of the Ethics Council, which has proven to be very effective in the work of the High Council of Justice and in the selection of judges of the Constitutional Court. The positive assessment of the Venice Commission is a confirmation of this," said the Deputy Head of the Presidential Office.
Andriy Smyrnov emphasized that the next steps in the implementation of the judicial reform have already been developed and are planned to be implemented in the near future. He noted that this reform is fundamental and will help increase the level of public trust in the judicial system.
The participants also discussed proposals to strengthen the independence of anti-corruption institutions in Ukraine. The Deputy Head of the Office of the President emphasized the importance of engaging international partners and best international practices to carry out a broad reform of the state expert environment.
